New Delhi [India], Members of Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a protest against AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi for his 'Jai Palestine' slogan during the swearing-in ceremony in Parliament.

Protesters were seen holding banners and signs that read: "The MP who insults the dignity of Parliament is not needed."

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday concluded his oath as a member of the Lok Sabha with the words "Jai Palestine".

While taking oath as an MP in the 18th session of the Lok Sabha, Owaisi ended his oath with the words: "Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine."

Talking to ANI, Owaisi said, "Everyone says a lot of things... I just said, 'Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine'... How is it against showing the provision of the Constitution?"

When asked the reason for saying 'Jai Palestine', Owaisi said: "Waha ki awaam mahroom hai (People there are destitute). Mahatma Gandhi has said so many things about Palestine and one can go read."

After Owaisi took oath as a member of the Lok Sabha with the words "Jai Palestine", Union ministers G Kishan Reddy and Kiren Rijiju criticized Owaisi and condemned his statement.

Addressing AIMIM chief, Union Coal and Mines Minister Reddy said, "The 'Jai Palestine' slogan given by AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi in Parliament today is incorrect. This is against the House rules. He does not say 'Bharat Mata ki Jai' while living in India."

The Telangana BJP president further added, "People should understand that he is doing unconstitutional work while he is living in the country."

On the other hand, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that raising the slogan of praising another country while taking oath is inappropriate. He said: "We have no enmity with Palestine or any other country. The question is, when taking the oath, is it appropriate for any member to raise the motto praising another country?"

Rijiju further added, "We don't have any problem with any other country, but we will have to check the rules if they are appropriate. Some members have come to me and complained about raising the Palestine slogan at the end of the oath."

Several Palestinians have faced the brunt of the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel.

On June 22, at least 25 people were killed and another 50 wounded in Israeli attacks on tents for displaced Palestinians in al-Mawasi, near Rafah, in the south of the coastal enclave, the Gaza Health Ministry reported. Al Jazeera reported.
