Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], Amid recent riots in Thiruvananthapuram among student union members, CPI(M) state secretary MV Govindan said the media is spreading "false propaganda".

Govindan's comments came while he was addressing a press conference on Thursday in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

Addressing the media, she said, "The media is spreading false propaganda. SFI will address and correct any minor defects and move on. There is an attempt to exploit SFI. The problems in a particular university are being exaggerated."

She further added, "I do not condone any erroneous trends. What is needed is correction and progress...Aggressions by students on teachers and vice versa are erroneous trends. These should not be viewed from a one-sided approach."

Earlier, the Kerala Assembly witnessed scandalous scenes with a fierce verbal duel between Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and opposition leader VD Satheesan.

The issue was raised as an adjournment motion brought by several Congress members, including Mr. Vincent. The Chief Minister rejected the opposition's motion to adjourn the session. Vijayan said conflicts on campus are undesirable and should be condemned. He further said that action should be taken against those responsible.

The KSU had alleged that SFI members attacked KSU district leader St Joseph inside the Kerala University campus in Karyavattom on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, Kerala University vice-chancellor Mohan Kunnummal directed the Registrar to conduct an inquiry and submit a report on the alleged assault to KSU Thiruvananthapuram district general secretary Sam Jose.

The incident allegedly took place in the Kariavattom campus hostel room and the vice-chancellor demanded that the report be submitted urgently within 48 hours.

According to the complaint, SFI activists assaulted KSU member Sam Jose in his hostel room on Tuesday night. Following the incident, on the night of July 2-3, KSU activists staged a protest at the Sreekaryam police station, demanding action against those responsible for the attack.

In response, the police said they had registered a case against United Democratic Front (UDF) MLAs Chandy Oommen and M Vincent and other KSU activists as well as SFI members accused in the complaint filed by Sam Jose.
