The Request for Proposal (RFP) document has been uploaded on TenderWizard, MECON website and Central Procurement Portal in e-tender mode, for which the date of bid submission is July 8, 2024.

The Steel Ministry said proposals are invited from Central Public Sector Undertakings, State Public Undertakings, Private Sector Companies, Indian R&D Institutes/Research Laboratories/Academic Institutions, indigenous equipment design and manufacturing companies as well as JVs and consortiums of such entities. Have been invited to present. Thursday.

Steel production is one of the sectors that has great potential to replace fossil fuels with green hydrogen.

The Steel Ministry said that with the rapidly evolving technological scenario with respect to renewable energy and electrolyzers for the production of hydrogen, it is expected that green-hydrogen based steel can become cost competitive in the next few years. To assess the potential of use of Green Hydrogen in the steel industry, the National Green Hydrogen Mission under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is supporting and setting up pilot projects in the steel sector.

Under the mission, a budgetary outlay of Rs 455 crore has been fixed for the steel sector till the financial year 2029-30.

The thrust areas under the scheme to consider support for development/selection/validation of commercially viable technologies for utilization of hydrogen in the steel sector are in the following three categories:

*Pilot project to produce DRI using 100 percent hydrogen using vertical shaft.

*Use of hydrogen in blast furnace to reduce coal/coke consumption (Scheme-B).

*Injection of hydrogen into vertical shaft based DRI forming unit to partially replace NG/other reducing gas and increase its proportion in a gradual manner with the aim of utilizing maximum hydrogen. The plans aim to advance technologies and expertise for the use of hydrogen in the steel making process.
