New Delhi [India], Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and State Bank of India (SBI) on Saturday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance digital payment services for users of the e-Migrate portal.

The agreement was signed by Joint Secretary OE&PGE (Protector General of Overseas Employment and Emigrants) Bramha Kumar on behalf of the Ministry and General Manager (NW-I) Nilesh Dwivedi on behalf of SBI at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in Delhi.

This MoU will become operational after successful integration of SBI's payment gateway, SBIPay with the e-Migrate portal.

The integration of SBIePay with the eMigrate portal will allow Indian migrant workers, Recruitment Agents (RAs) and other users to make various emigration-related payments easily. This includes transactions through UPI, credit/debit cards and NEFT, through net banking of all Indian banks, all without transaction charges."The signing of this MoU will further facilitate and enhance the scope of safe and legal migration of Indian migrant workers," the ministry said.

The eMigrate project, launched in 2014, was designed to support Indian workers moving to Emigration Check Required (ECR) countries for employment. By making the emigration process online and transparent, it aims to make the emigration experience simple and secure.

This platform brought together Foreign Employers (FEs), Registered RAs and insurance companies offering Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY) on a single platform, thereby promoting seamless and legal migration processes.

Additionally, the portal includes a mechanism for voluntary registration of expatriates holding ECNR (emigration verification not required) category passports who are seeking employment abroad. The collaboration between MEA and SBI through SBIePay integration is an important step towards enhancing the digital payment infrastructure for the eMigrate portal.

By providing a cost-free, efficient and secure way to deal with emigration-related fees, the MoU not only streamlines the payment process but also strengthens the overall framework for safe and legal migration of Indian workers abroad.
