New Delhi: Jake Fraser-McGurk produced a power-hitting masterclass as Delhi Capitals kept themselves in the IPL playoff race with a 10-run win over Mumbai Indians here on Saturday.

Bringing out his big hitting ability, young McGurk slammed Scorchin Delhi with a blistering 84 off 27 balls, leaving DC with a mammoth score of 25 for four after being invited to bat.

Tilak Verma (63) and Hardik Pandya (46) gave Mumbai a ray of hope by playing some high shots, but Delhi bowlers, led by Rasikh Salam (3/34), struck at regular intervals to leave Mumbai at 247 for 9. Stopped on the run.

The win moved DC up to fifth place, while MI continued to hold the last spot.

While McGurk performed brilliantly, Tristan Stubbs scored an unbeaten 48 off 2 balls in the death overs as DC produced a brilliant batting effort to post their highest score in the IPL.In reply, MI's script did not go as per plan as Khaleel Ahmed played the first shot as Rohit Sharma (8) was dismissed.

To score more than 250 runs, MI batsmen had to step up from the start and the wickets of Ishan Kishan (20) and Suryakumar Yadav (26) fell.

With three wickets falling and the required run rate rising, Pandya took things into his own hands, plundering 19 runs in the ninth over bowled by DC's star spinner Kuldi Yadav.

He hit three fours before hitting the ball for a six over long on. Tilak Verma hit a four and a six off Akshar Patel and both made a partnership of 71 runs. But 'Impact Player' Salam not only broke this partnership by taking the wicket of Pandya but also dismissed Nehal Wadhera in the same over.

After this, Verma got an ally in Tim David but he was run out in the last over.

Earlier, opening for DC for the second time this season, 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk equaled his own record for the fastest half-century this season, defeating the hosts just 15 balls after being put in to bat by MI. But the milestone was achieved.

With McGurk in the middle, it was raining fours and sixes in the small Arun Jaitley Stadium. He hit 11 fours and six sixes. He took 19 runs off the first over bowled by Luke Wood, setting the tone as he skilfully took advantage of field restrictions in the powerplay to score 92 runs.

Facing arguably the best bowler in the world, the Australian welcomed Jaspri Bumrah with a six on the log, followed by a four in the second over.

Even Nuwan Thushara, who came in place of Wood, could not stop McGurk, who displayed tremendous power and hit three fours.

With his fast bowlers all over the park, Mumbai captain Pandya decided to include spin in the form of Piyush Chawla, but it made no difference to McGurk, who smashed a long-on to get his third IPL half-century. Hit a maximum four on on.

McGurk then took a particular liking to Pandya as he smashed the ball out of the park before sending it to deep midwicket as Abhishek Porel (36) at the other end had the best seat to enjoy the stroke making .Chawla was eventually successful in ending the carnage with a googly. MI continued to dominate for a few overs, with Mohammad Nabi dismissing Porel in the 10th over.

But Shai Hope (41) came into action and hit five sixes, while Rishabh Pant (29) hit a helicopter shot. The DC captain whipped the ball, which bounced over deep mid-wicket.

Stubbs took DC beyond 200 runs. The South African continued his dangerous form and took Wood to the cleaners in the 18th over where he hit only boundaries. The over read 4, 4, 6, 4, 4, 4.

However, in the next over, Bumrah showed his class as he came down with a bouncer to dismiss Pant, who attempted to pull to catch Rohit at deep backward square leg.
