Sydney: Australian cricket coach Andrew McDonald on Tuesday said charismatic young batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk and all-rounder Matthew Short have been added to the squad as traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup in the US as they top the table. Come up with something different. ,

The 22-year-old Fraser-McGurk, in his debut IPL season, displayed explosive batting excellence for Delhi Capitals, scoring four half-centuries at a staggering strike rate of over 234 in nine matches.

He scored 330 runs including 32 fours and 28 sixes, leading many Australian legends to advocate his inclusion in the 15-man squad. But after being overlooked for next month's World Cup in West Indies and USA, he has finally been included as a traveling reserve.

“I think they (Fraser-McGurk and Short) are a bit different in terms of what they offer.Fraser is an out-and-out opener and the way we have developed Matthew Shore in the team is through the middle order and that spin. The bowling) ability is good,” McDonald told Sen Radio.

McDonald indicated that shorts could be useful in case of injury to Glenn Maxwell.

"We think he's a spinning all-rounder like (Short) Glenn Maxwell, I'd say anything goes there, and obviously Jake Fraser-McGurk is a great top-order player," McDonald said.

However, the two reserves will not be able to play unless there is an injury to the team. The Australian team is set to take off for the World Cup on Wednesday.

“Both are exciting, I think they both add a lot.

“Those guys sit out of the 15, the only way they get into the selection table is if there are any injuries, so we have two options depending on what we lose or what we get in terms of injuries. Maybe,” McDonald added.

The coach said that apart from the two players, Australia also had several other options in case any player in the 15-man squad became injured or unwell.

“We have some other options in the form of Spencer Johnson, Xavier Bartlett who are also playing in the UK, so if we lose a bowler those guys are stepping up to the UK... and they can come , its only a short flight from England to the West Indies. On fitness concerns of opener David Warner, McDonald said that 37-year-old Warner is fine.

"No, not at this stage. We believe he is fully fit, whatever he says he is fully fit, we know he will be there for Delhi (Capitals in the IPL) in the last Didn't play the game, it was clearly a selection mechanism there to play the tournament the way they wanted, I think he played the second last round... We have no fear that he won't be fit And will not be completely available.

Australia will play its first group stage match against Oman in Barbados on 6 June.
