Fraser-McGurk, who scored 330 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 234.04 including two half-centuries in 15 balls for Delhi Capitals, has been named in Australia's two traveling reserves for the World Cup along with all-rounder Matthew Short.

"There's no doubt he caught our attention and was a big talking point when it came to the final 15," head coach Andrew McDonald told SEN Radio. "He was performing very well and there is no doubt that he will perform very well in the future too. There is no doubt that what he did in the IPL, he shined, he is an extraordinary talent and he has been there throughout the journey. Will give a lot of joy to the fans during this time.

“When discussing the 15-man squad, we needed to cover all the bases with the way we wanted to play and that took a lot of building up over time.,

Despite an impressive domestic summer, which included an ODI debut against the West Indies, Fraser-McGurk was initially considered an outside chance for the World Cup squad. However, his explosive IPL stint has landed him in serious controversy. His remarkable batting performances caught the attention of the selectors, but it was decided not to disrupt Australia's back three of David Warner, Travis Head and captain Mitchell Marsh.

Fraser-McGurk himself remains philosophical about not being included in the final squad, expressing satisfaction with his role as a traveling reserve. Speaking on the Willow Talk podcast, he said: “If I can somehow get a traveling reserve (spot) then great, I can get good experience there. It didn't really bother me much because I wasn't in it." This position feels like I've earned it so far."

McDonald also suggested Fraser-McGurk as a possible candidate to partner Travy Head at the top of the order in the post-David Warner era.

“Think that would be a good sign, think that's where we'll go. He'll be somewhere in the top three and we're not ruling out the fact that he might be able to play a role in the middle order as well." Said.

While Fraser-McGurk has grabbed the headlines, Matthew Short's domestic performances also promise a competitive future for Australia's white-ball teams.

McDonald said: "Matthew Short will be competing for that too and think in the Jake Fraser-McGurk conversation we're probably ruling out Matthew Shore who is capable of doing that domestically as well. So, we think we've got some “There are young talented players who are ready to go when we need them.”

As far as Warner is concerned, his T20 World Cup preparations have been affected due to the hand injury he suffered during the IPL, but McDonald assured that Warner is fully fit.The head coach said, "We believe he is fully fit, whatever he says he is fully fit... We fear he will not be fit and will not be fully available."
