New Delhi: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Thursday said it will soon create a cactus garden near IP. Extension's Deshbandhu Apartment at a cost of Rs 50.48 lakh, which will showcase 15 varieties of cactus.

According to an official statement, this will be the first cactus garden of its kind by MCD and the second in Delhi.

The area where the cactus garden is being built under the Centre's Amrit 2.0 scheme is spread over 1.45 acres. The construction of the cactus garden will be completed by September this year.

A total of 15 species of cactus will be displayed in the said garden, which will include 550 plants of grafted ordinary Helio cactus, 200 plants of colorful grafted ordinary Helio cactus, 20 plants of Ferlo cactus, 50 plants of Melo cactus with cap. 500 cactus plants at root.

The centerpiece of the project is a 10x10 meter state-of-the-art poly house, equipped with advanced temperature and water control systems to ensure optimal growth conditions for the cacti.

Additionally, the park will be equipped with 10 reinforced concrete benches, a grass lawn and topiary plantation of trees and shrubs for the comfort of visitors and increased greenery.

The statement said, "Municipal Corporation of Delhi is working on various new projects to increase the green cover in the city. We are developing various parks and gardens in Delhi which will emerge as recreation and picnic spots for the residents. "
