New Delhi: The MCD will install blue plaques at 1,300 heritage sites including schools, hospitals, police stations in the national capital to raise awareness about heritage sites, officials said.

He said the initiative is similar to London's Blue Plaque programme.

"We aim to complete the work in the next 15-20 days. The work has already started. These plagues will basically serve as sign boards to attract the attention of heritage lovers.,

"They will raise awareness about heritage sites that otherwise go unnoticed or unnoticed because there are no sign boards," said an official.

London's Blue Plaque programme, which began in 1866 and is believed to be the first of its kind, offers an informal historical walking tour of the city that commemorates notable people and their achievements while highlighting the places where they lived And used to work.

In the first phase of the programme, 55 notified heritage sites have been identified where these plaques have been installed. The civic body has more than 1,300 sites under its jurisdiction.

“These monuments are located in the walled city area.There are a total of 1,300 notified sites where these plaques will be installed. “Under this initiative, many places including tombs of important personalities, schools, hospitals and police stations will be covered,” the official said.

Plaques for most of the sites are ready and will be installed by the works or maintenance department of the MCD, he said.

Those honored under the Blue Plaque program in London include well-known figures ranging from wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill to Communist pioneer Karl Marx, as well as lesser-known figures such as theatrical wig maker Willie Clarkson and civil engineer William Lindley, who inspired the world Water and sewage systems constructed throughout. ,
