KOLKATA: Three days after a fire broke out at a closed restaurant in the Park Street area, a massive fire broke out at a shopping mall in the southern part of Kolkata on Friday, a fire department official said.

He said that there was no report of any casualty in the fire that broke out on the third floor of the shopping mall in Kasba area, while it took about two and a half hours for 16 fire engines to control the fire.

“The fire has been brought under control and the cooling process is underway. The cause of the fire is not yet known, though it may have originated from the air conditioning system. The forensic team will investigate the matter and find out the exact cause,” officials. told.

The fire broke out in a book shop on the third floor of the shopping mall around 12.15 pm and then spread to the food court area, the official said, adding that several mirrors in the mall had to be broken to put out the smoke. premises.

The official said some firefighters had to wear oxygen masks to enter the building, while hydraulic ladders were also put into operation.

A senior Kolkata Traffic Police official said the entire area was filled with smoke and traffic movement in front of the mall had been controlled.

State Fire Minister Sujit Bose reached the spot and said that an investigation would be conducted.

"No one was injured in the incident. The fire brigade personnel did a very good job. We will send a notice to the shopping mall authorities and necessary action will be taken if any lapse is found on their part," Bose said.

Senior police officers were also present on the spot.

Later, normal vehicular movement was restored on Rajdanga Main Road in front of the shopping mall, a police officer said.
