Gurugram: Nearly 240 slums were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a slum in Sector 53 here on Friday. A DFS official gave this information.

There is no report of any casualty during the incident. Some people who were carrying their belongings from their homes suffered minor injuries, he said.

According to a fire official, the fire broke out due to gas leakage while cooking around 10.40 am and soon spread to other slums in the area. About 10 cylinders exploded in a slum near Banjara Market.

Police said slum residents work as labourers, domestic servants and security guards.

After this, the residents called the fire department. He said around 10 fire tenders were pressed into service and it took them five hours to control the fire.

"The fire broke out due to the explosion of a small cylinder. It took five hours of effort to control it. About 240 huts were gutted in the fire," the official said.

The fire officer said, "The cause of the fire has been revealed to be leakage of gas while cooking."
