MUMBAI: Benchmark equity indices rose in early trade on Thursday amid buying in blue chips Larsen & Toubro and Reliance Industries.

In early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 41.65 points to 74,262.71. NSE Nifty rose 20.1 points to 22,617.90.

Later, the BSE benchmark was trading 225.06 points higher at 74,456.44 and the Nifty was trading 77.50 points higher at 22,675.30.

Larsen & Toubro, Asian Paints, Axis Bank, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Wipro, Titan and Bharti Airtel were the major gainers among Sensex companies.Power Grid, Sun Pharma, JSW Steel and Tata Steel were among the laggards.
