Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange on Thursday adjourned his indefinite fast over the reservation issue, six days after starting it, and set a one-month deadline for the Maharashtra government to accept the demands of the community.

He made this announcement when Maharashtra minister and Maratha quota sub-committee member Shambhuraj Desai, Shiv Sena MP Sandipan Bhumre met him at his native village Antarwali Sarti in Jalna district and discussed the issue.

Addressing people at the protest site, Jarange said, “We are giving one month's time to the government to fulfill the demands of the Maratha community. But we will also move ahead with our preparations for the upcoming assembly elections. If the government does not do this, give us reservation, we will go and get it.,

"If the demands are not met within a month, neither the opposition members nor those in the government should come to us. We will declare the names of the candidates (in the state assembly elections) and defeat them," he said.

Jarange, who began his fresh round of protests on Saturday, is demanding implementation of the draft notification that recognizes Kunbis as "rishi soyaare" (blood relatives) of Maratha community members and grants the Kunbis the status of Marathas. Is also demanding a law to recognize as.

Kunbi, an agrarian group, falls under the Other Backward Class (OBC) category, and Jarange is demanding that Kunbi certificates be issued to all Marathas, making them eligible for quota benefits.

Speaking after his meeting with Jarrange, Minister Desai said, “A meeting will be called tomorrow (on this issue).Of the last five months, two months were spent in following the Model Code of Conduct (for Lok Sabha elections). We will take a positive decision on the demands of the Maratha community in a month. If additional manpower is required to expedite the work, we will do so with the permission of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde."
