Jangholun Haokip, KIM's information and propaganda secretary, said his organization was completely shocked by the alleged "peace talks" between the two communities.

In a strongly worded statement, Haokip said, "KIM has no knowledge of any 'peace talks' between the Kuki-Zo people and the Meiteis, as mentioned by Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday. did."

On the contrary, KIM will remain committed to continue the political boycott of the present Manipur government for "planning and carrying out oppression against the Kuki-Zo people".

"The Manipur state government is using the government machinery in its brutal campaign against our people, causing them untold losses," the tribal leader alleged. He said that KIM "cannot negotiate with our oppressors for justice and equality for our people".

It said the demand for a Union Territory with a Legislative Assembly for the Kuki-Zo people has long been forwarded to the Center for constitutional action and the Kuki-Zo people are committed to it till its completion.

"Any so-called peace talks or political talks without the knowledge of KIM and its constituent organizations are mere illusions. KIM and its constituent organizations are the only legitimate body to move forward for the Kuki-Zo people," the tribal said. The body said.

Chief Minister Biren Singh on Wednesday said talks have begun between the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities involved in the ongoing crisis in Manipur to restore peace under the supervision of the Central government.

At least 220 people have been killed, 1,500 injured and 70,000 displaced since violence broke out between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities on May 3 last year. The caste riots started after 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organized in the hill districts in protest of the Meitei community's demand for granting them Scheduled Tribe status.
