Imphal (Manipur) [India] Manipur Police on Friday said security forces have arrested three insurgents from Shantong near Lamlong village in Tengnoupal district.

The arrested persons are Thiam Lukhoi Luwang (21) of KYKL Group, Kesham Premchand Singh (24) of KYKL Group and Inaobi Khundrakpam (20) of KCP Noyon Group.

These arrests followed search operations and area dominance conducted by security forces in border and sensitive areas of the hill and valley districts.

During these operations, several weapons and explosives were recovered from the foothills of the Gangpijang Hill Range in Kangpokpi District on 16 June.

The recovered items included one 7.62 mm AK-56 assault rifle, one .22 rifle, one 12-inch single-bore barrel gun, two improvised projectile launchers, one Chinese hand grenade, one country-made hand grenade, one 51 mm mortar and one hand grenade. 15 rounds live cartridges.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday took a holistic review of the security situation in Manipur at a high-level meeting in the national capital and directed to ensure that "there is no further incident of violence" in the north-eastern state.

In the meeting he emphasized on strategic deployment of central forces to restore peace in Manipur.
