IMPHAL: The Manipur government has decided to provide Rs 10,000 to each flood-affected family as "immediate relief", an official said on Friday.

He said that the decision in this regard was taken during the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday evening.

The meeting "discussed a number of state issues and resolved to set up a cabinet sub-committee for resettlement and rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic violence".

The floods, which occurred in the last week of May, have affected more than 1.88 lakh people and damaged over 24,000 houses, mostly in the Imphal valley, as river embankments breached following heavy rains caused by Cyclone Remal.
