Thoubal (Manipur) [India], Assam Rifles in a joint operation with Manipur Police recovered huge cache of arms, ammunition and war-like stores in Thoubal, an official said. The recovered items included one bolt-action rifle, one 9 mm carbine, one 9M pistol, four 51 mm mortar bombs, eight grenades, ammunition and other war stores.

“Acting on specific intelligence of presence of arms and ammunition in general area Pechi in Thoubal district of Manipur, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police including commandos launched a search operation on April 12, 2024. A bolt action rifle, A 9 mm carbine was recovered. One 9 mm pistol, four 51 meter mortar bombs, eight grenades, ammunition and other war-like items have been handed over to the police, Assam Rifles said in the statement. In another development, Assam Rifles conducted two separate operations in Mizoram's Aizawl and Hanahlan towns and recovered heroin worth Rs 11 crore.Officials said on Friday that Chai had also arrested two Myanmar nationals. According to an official release, in an operation conducted along with Champa police station in Mizoram, Assam Rifles recovered 110 soap boxes (1,522 grams) o Heroin No. 04, worth Rs 10. On April 10, 65,40,000 and two Myanmar nationals were caught at General Area Bapi Crossing, Hanhala. The team also caught two persons, who were handed over to Champha police station for further legal proceedings. The arrested persons include 50-year-old Ngelunniang and 53-year-old Kamsong.In another operation in Aizawl, Assam Rifles in collaboration with Special Narcotics Police Station, CID (Crime) recovered four soap boxes (50.860 grams) of heroin worth Rs. Rs 35,60,200/- on 10th April in General Area Ropiyabak, Aizawl. Four boxes of Heroin No. 4 were being carried by an unidentified person, who threw away the contraband and fled from the scene on foot into the dense forests nearby. The ongoing trafficking of illegal drugs is a major cause of concern for the state of Mizoram. Assam Rifles, known as the 'sentinel of the North-East', has continued its efforts against illegal drug trafficking and redoubled its efforts to nab the kingpins of drug rackets in Mizoram.
