Imphal (Manipur) [India], Assam Rifles launched Operation Water Relief in Imphal to prevent floods. The flood control room has been activated with helpline number 7075578116 from 6 pm on July 2, 2024, Assam Rifles said in a statement.

Reports of severe waterlogging and rivers reaching high flood levels were received from Imphal West, Imphal East and Thoubal districts.

On Tuesday, on the demand of the civil administration, two Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) columns were deployed at New Chekon and Mahabali Temple in Imphal. The paramilitary force said that as a result of prompt action by Assam Rifles, 550 civilians, including men, women and children, were safely rescued and flooding in areas around the Imphal river was prevented.

One of these columns moved to Irilbung and fortified the banks of the Iril River. Additionally, additional HADR columns have been deployed in Singjamei, Nambol and Kithelmanbi.

A mobile medical unit was set up to provide immediate medical aid to the rescued people, Assam Rifles said.

Earlier on Monday, amid the flood-like situation in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Rifles launched Operation Savior to rescue civilians stranded in flood-affected villages.

Around 500 civilians were rescued from remote villages of Vijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Srishtipur, Hanti Mara Beel and Chaukham.

With unprecedented rainfall in Namsai and Changlang districts, Assam Rifles in coordination with the civil administration set up temporary camps and shelters, provided emergency ration, food and medicines.
