Dahod: A man has been detained for alleged fake voting after he live-streamed the polling from inside a polling booth in Dahod Lok Sabha constituency, officials said on Wednesday.

The Congress has claimed that the man, Vijay Bhabhor, is the son of a local BJ leader and accused him of "insulting democracy" by going live on Instagram from the booth.

Police in the state's Mahisagar district took Bhabhor and another woman into custody after the opposition complained to the Election Commission with a copy of the video. Although Babhor removed the video after criticism, by then the clip had gone viral on social media.

Dahod Returning Officer Nirgude Babanra said the incident of a man broadcasting the video live on Instagram after he went to the poll booth to cast his vote was being investigated.“We have received the video along with a complaint and investigation is underway,” he said.

Voting took place on 25 out of 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat on Tuesday in the third phase of general elections. BJP candidate has won unopposed in Sura.

Mahisagar Superintendent of Police Jaideep Singh Jadeja said the incident took place at a polling booth in Parthampur in Mahisagar district under Dahod parliamentary constituency.

"We have detained two people and action is being taken on the basis of the FIR lodged by the presiding officer under the Representation of the People Act for fraudulent voting," Jadeja said.

He said that Bhabhor went to the polling booth to cast his vote at 5.49 pm and left from there at 5.54 pm.In those five minutes, he said, he went live on Instagram and allegedly cast votes on behalf of two other voters, resorting to fake voting.

Prabha is the Congress candidate from Taviad constituency. His contest is against sitting MP Jaswant Singh Bhabhor.

The Congress claimed that the man who circulated the "booth capturing" video on Instagram is the son of a local BJP leader.

Congress spokesperson Manish Doshi said that re-polling is being conducted at booth number 22 in Parthampur regarding this incident."In Mahisagar, a BJP leader's son tampered with the EVM machine and made a live video of booth capturing, misusing the Election Commission and insulting democracy," Doshi said.

A Congress leader has shared this alleged video on his X handle. “BJP leader Vijay Bhabhor captured the booth in Parthampur village of Santrampur. While doing so, he comes live on social media and is seen threatening election officials,” he claimed.

The video allegedly shows Bhabhor focusing the camera on the EVM (Electronic Voting Machine) and VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) machine and demanding five to ten minutes from an election official, even That when Bhabhor was asked to leave, he also allegedly said that "only BJP works here". His companion was also seen in the video.

“The machine belongs to my father.Only one thing works – that is BJP,” Bhabhor said before pressing the button on the EVM, according to the video. “Only Vija Bhabhor works here,” he reportedly says.''
