Kolkata: A man shot at his girlfriend and then killed himself with a pistol at a guest house in south Kolkata on Wednesday, a senior police officer said.
The man was identified as Rajesh Kumar Sahu, a resident of Santoshpur in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, the official said.
According to him, the incident took place around 5 pm when the man opened fire on the woman inside her room at the guest house in the Lake area of the city, where both of them had come to check-in on Sunday.
"Circumstantial evidence suggests that their relationship may have deteriorated. The case is at a very preliminary stage," the officer said.
The police officer said the woman was shot in the leg and they were looking for further information about her.
The woman, who is being treated at a nursing home in the southern part of the city, is in "very serious condition", he said, adding that the person was declared "brought dead" by doctors.
He said that the police have recovered a 9 mm pistol from the spot.
