Baripada, a court in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district on Saturday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife.
Mayurbhanj District Additional Sessions Judge Satyanarayan Patra pronounced the verdict and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on convict SK Samrat (25).
Additional public prosecutor Krishna Chandra Das said the verdict was pronounced after examining the statements of 22 witnesses and a medical report.
On June 4, 2021, Samrat strangled his wife Chumki Khatoon (20) to death during a fight in Kendukhal village.
After the incident, the police have registered a case under section 302 of the IPC and arrested the accused.
