Noida: The Noida Police has nabbed a 22-year-old man for allegedly stealing from houses and vehicles while pretending to be unable to hear and speak to avoid suspicion and arrest, officials said.

He said that Ruthra Venkatesan, a resident of Tamil Nadu, was caught by the officers of Bisrakh police station near D-Mart on Sunday.

"Based on electronic surveillance and technical evidence, the accused was apprehended and nine stolen laptops, nine laptop bags, three laptop chargers and a knife were recovered from his possession," a police spokesperson said.

He used to steal items from houses and vehicles and pretended to be unable to speak, the officer said.

The spokesperson said a letter was also seized from him with the words "An Appeal: The bearer of this application is a fool" written on it.

He said, "During interrogation, the accused told the police that he used to commit theft by pretending to be deaf and dumb so that no one would suspect him."

Police said an FIR has been registered against the man on charges including theft and possession of stolen properties and he has been sent to jail.
