Thane: A 57-year-old man from Thane lost Rs 1.12 crore after he was lured by cyber fraudsters to invest in Bitcoin trading, police said on Monday.
According to the police, the accused persons contacted the victim through a Facebook link between April and June and lured him to invest under the guise of Bitcoin trading by assuring him of high returns, an officer said, adding that the complainant had given Rs. 1,12 Paid Rs ,62,871. ,
Police have booked others, including the administrator of a WhatsApp group and holders of the bank accounts where the money was diverted.
“The complainant approached the police after not getting any returns on her investment and the accused started ignoring her calls,” the officer said.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act. No arrests have been made yet.
