A 32-year-old man, who was being flown to Goa after his arrest in Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, escaped from the Mumbai airport despite being chased by a policeman from the coastal state. Police gave this information on Thursday.

Imad Wasim Khan was daring to escape around 6 am on Wednesday when a Goa Police team took him to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, an official said.

He said Khan is an accused in a case registered in Mapusa, Goa for allegedly wrongful confinement, voluntarily causing hurt and impersonating a public servant.

Based on inputs, Goa Police recently visited Khan's hometown in UP's Saharanpur and took him into custody with the help of their local counterparts.

The two-member police team boarded the flight to Mumbai and reached T2 (Terminal 2). As one policeman was asking the airport staff about T1, from where he was to board a flight to Goa, Khan escaped from the clutches of another.

According to the FIR lodged at Sahar police station here, the policeman followed Khan, who walked out of the airport and got into a car.

Citing the FIR, the officer said the policeman also tried to pull Khan out, but he managed to stay inside despite the scuffle and fled in the vehicle.

The officer said two Goa policemen lodged a complaint against Khan after they failed to trace him.

The officer said that a case has been registered against Khan and efforts are being made to nab him.
