Thane, Maharashtra Police in Thane district have arrested a man for allegedly raping and murdering a 9-year-old girl, an official said on Friday.
Abhay Yadav (42) of Govind Nagar under the jurisdiction of Shanti Nagar police station in Bhiwandi area allegedly abducted the girl on Thursday afternoon, raped and strangulated her, they said.
The officer said that after passersby were alerted about the body of a child, police started investigation and arrested Yadav within hours.

Kanchan Das (36) strangled his wife Lakshmi Das (28) with a dupatta on Wednesday. Then she told his family that she had eloped with someone. But investigation revealed his involvement resulting in his arrest.
A senior Bhiwandi police officer said the accused in both the cases have been booked under Section 103 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS), which came into force on Monday, replacing the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
