Indore: A 22-year-old man has been arrested here for creating obscene deepfake photos of at least ten female social media users, most of whom are college students, and threatening to circulate them.

Police said on Monday that accused Yash Bhavsar worked as a computer operator in Shajapur Municipal Council of Madhya Pradesh.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhinay Vishwakarma told reporters that Bhavsar allegedly created deepfake or morphed photographs of these women, who have Instagram accounts, using an AI-based app.

He then created an account on Instagram with a fake identity and sent photos to these women and threatened to circulate them on social media if they blocked or ignored him.

"Most of these women are college students. One of them is a friend of Bhavsar's wife," the police officer said.

The DCP said police have seized Bhavsar's mobile phone and laptop and further investigation is underway.
