KARACHI: Former captain Salim Malik has accused Imad Wasim of deliberately wasting balls during Pakistan's six-run defeat to arch-rivals India in the T20 World Cup in New York.

Chasing a huge target of 120 runs in New York on Sunday, Pakistani batsmen played 59 dot balls and could score only 113 runs for 7 wickets.

Wasim took 23 balls to score 15 runs for the loss.

"You look at his (Wasim) innings and it seems like instead of scoring runs, he was wasting balls and making things difficult in the run-chase," Malik said on 24 news channel.

Another former captain Shahid Afridi feels that all is not well in the Pakistan dressing room and some players have problems with captain Babar Azam.Afridi said, "A captain brings everyone together, he either spoils the team atmosphere or makes the team. Let this World Cup end and I will speak openly."

He said, "I have such a relationship with Shaheen (Afridi) that if I talk about him, people will say that I am favoring my son-in-law."

Afridi's daughter is married to left-arm fast bowler Shaheen, who was removed as T20 captain just ahead of the World Cup after just one series in New Zealand.

Former fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar left no stone unturned in criticizing Pakistan's poor performance and said that the Babar Azam-led side does not deserve to be in the Super Eight stage."I think I should have a template text. Disappointed and hurt are destined to be automatically posted. The whole country is disappointed and out of control. Morale is low. Somehow you have to show intent to win.Does Pakistan deserve to be out of the Super Eights? God knows," Akhtar said in a video message on 'X', formerly Twitter.

Former England cricketer Michael Vaughan believes that Pakistan lacks confidence. "Sometimes really bad pitches make for the best games.. this was one of them.. Pakistan just didn't believe they could win.. simple as that.. #INDvsPAK."

After consecutive defeats against the weak United States and India, Pakistan's Super Eight chances now hinge on big wins against Canada and Ireland, with the Americans also expected to lose to India and Ireland.

Even in that situation, both the teams will finish on four points each and it will come down to net run rate.or ssc ssc
