Male, the recently crowned T20 World Champions Indian cricket team has been invited by the country's tourism association and its marketing and public relations corporation to celebrate their victory in the Maldives.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team won the trophy in Barbados by defeating South Africa by seven runs in the final on June 29.

"Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) in collaboration with Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has jointly extended a special and open invitation to the Indian national cricket team," the two bodies said in a joint statement. "

MMPRC CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shiuri and MATI General Secretary Ahmed Nazir said they were looking forward to hosting the team, which returned to India on Thursday last week.

It was welcomed by ecstatic fans in both Delhi and Mumbai, which also hosted victory parades of millions of supporters.

“We would be honored to host you and ensure that your stay is filled with memorable moments, relaxation and special experiences,” Shiuri and Nazir said in a joint statement.

He said the invitation also highlights the strong and long-standing cultural and sporting ties between Maldives and India.

Shiuri further said, “It will be a great honor for Maldives to welcome the Indian cricket team and share in the joy of their victory.”

“We eagerly look forward to the opportunity to host them, providing them with the perfect environment to create lasting memories of their victory celebration,” he said.

The team is currently on a break. Its next international match is a six-match limited overs series against Sri Lanka from July 27. This series includes three ODIs and as many T20 International matches.
