Mumbai, State Congress chief Nana Patole on Saturday said the Maharashtra government should enact a strict law to stop paper leaks and punish the culprits.

He also claimed that some students from other states appeared for NEET in Nashik with fake disability certificates.

The investigation into NEET irregularities has led to the arrests in Maharashtra's Latur, he said in the Assembly, adding that thousands of students are affected by paper leaks and other malpractices.

Patole asked whether the state government would enact strict laws against paper leaks to curb such incidents.

“Some students from other states came to Nashik and appeared for NEET by obtaining fake disability certificates. On one hand, the papers are being leaked, and on the other such students are taking advantage of the examination. This is a mockery of the future of the students. Thousands of people have protested against such leaks in Nanded and other parts of the state."

Speaking on the demolition of slums on a plot in Jai Bhim Nagar in Mumbai's Powai area on June 6, he said that 650 poor and backward families have become homeless due to this action of the civic body and the police.

"Even though there is protection for slums till 2011 and there are court orders that such action should not be taken during rains, why were these slums demolished using police bandobast? Small children and women are being beaten by the police. Who is responsible for this? Is it the government? Pro builder,” he asked.

Patole said, the government should take action against those officials but first it should tell what will be done to give these 650 families back home.
