New Delhi: At least 11 newborns were rescued after a massive fire broke out at a children's hospital in East Delhi's Vivek Vihar area on Saturday night.

Delhi Fire Service said it received a call at 11.32 pm and nine FIR tenders were sent to the spot.

Officials said 11 newborns were rescued from the building.

According to DFS chief Atul Garg, the rescue operation is still going on. The cause of the fire has not been known yet.

"The fire was reported from the baby care centre, near ITI, Block B, Vivek Vihar area. A total of nine fire tenders were dispatched," Garg said.

The incident comes a day after at least 27 people were killed in a massive fire and building collapse at a crowded sports arena in Gujarat's Rajco town.
