New Delhi, Mayiki South Mining Pvt Ltd has bagged the country's first lithium block in Chhattisgarh, the government said on Monday.

This block was given to the company at an auction premium of 76.05 percent.

The results were announced during the beginning of the fourth round of auction of critical and strategic minerals.

The mines ministry said Mackie South Mining has emerged as the preferred bidder for the Katghora lithium and rare earth elements (REE) block in Chhattisgarh.

Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy announced the launch of the fourth round of critical and strategic minerals auction, in which 21 blocks have been put up for sale.

Of these blocks, 11 are new blocks in states including Arunachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka.

On this occasion, Reddy said that the benefits of the reforms taken in 2015 are visible in the mining and minerals sector.

Speaking on the occasion, Mines Secretary VL Kantha Rao said that the Mines Ministry will ensure that production from critical minerals starts very soon.

He also assured that there will be improvement in the mining sector every 15 days.

The government received 56 physical bids and 56 online bids for 18 of the 20 blocks offered during the first tranche of the auction that began on November 29, 2023.

However, the auction of 13 out of 20 blocks was canceled due to weak response.

Seven of these canceled blocks were re-notified for auction in the third round.
