Washington [US], A decade after her breakout role in the horror hit 'It Follows', actress Maika Monroe is getting ready to reprise her iconic character in the highly anticipated sequel.

Monroe, who played Jamie "Jay" Haight in the original 2014 film, spoke excitedly with writer/director David Robert Mitchell about returning to the terrifying world of 'It Follows'.

In an interview obtained by Deadline, he expressed confidence in Mitchell's vision for the sequel.

"David is fantastic. I mean, he's fantastic," Monroe gushed, adding, "At that moment the whole movie changed.It was changing the game in the genre, and he never would have made a sequel if he didn't think "This was going to top it."

Monroe, who was initially skeptical about the idea of ​​a sequel, had her doubts dispelled after reading the script.

"I'm very excited. I read it", he said, pointing to the intensity of the script and the development of his character, "It's great.I'm very excited."

Reflecting on her return to the role of Jay Haight, Monroe hinted at an unexpected development in an interview obtained by Deadline.

"I think where you meet Jay this time is probably not what was expected, but it's pretty cool," she teased.

"Of course, as everyone asks for a sequel, literally, however, this one is much bigger and darker," she said, adding, "Reading it was the craziest thing ever."

Monroe expressed excitement about the challenges and fulfillment that the role brings."It's been a long time since I've been this excited to learn about something," she admitted.

The original 'It Follows' received critical praise for its innovative approach to horror. The sequel, announced last October, will be produced by Neon and Good Fear Content, with filming scheduled to begin in 2024.
