New Delhi: The Congress on Monday criticized the Mahayuti government over the Adani group winning a tender to supply 6,600 MW of combined renewable and thermal power to Maharashtra and questioned whether "these revdis" to the conglomerate will put a heavy tariff burden on the state. consumers.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications Jairam Ramesh said that even as the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra "teeters towards a crushing defeat", they decide to spend their last days in power pursuing a "Modani venture", giving the Adani Group a gigantic purchasing power. contract.

"Here are five questions for the non-biological PM about his new joint venture. Isn't that true? The terms and conditions of the tender issued by the Maharashtra government for the bids of 1,600 MW thermal and 5,000 MW solar on 13 March 2024., were modified from the Standard Bidding Guidelines to minimize competition?" he said in a post on X.

“The tariff for 1600 MW coal power is around Rs 12 crore per MW, at a time when Adani has contracts with BHEL for less than Rs 7 crore per MW, and other suppliers like NTPC/DVC/Neveli Lignite Corporations are implementing large thermal projects at Rs 8-9 crore per MW,” he said.

Ramesh asked whether Rs 28,000 crore of the project cost will be fully funded by the agencies controlled by the Ministry of Power of the Maharashtra government.

"Tariffs for solar power are in the range of Rs 2.5 per unit, but will Adani Green supply power at Rs 2.7 per unit? These revdis (gifts) distributed to the Adani Group will put a heavy tariff burden on consumers of 2.7 crores in the state of Maharashtra?" Ramesh said.

The Adani group won a tender to supply 6,600 MW of combined thermal and renewable energy to Maharashtra in the long term after its quote of Rs 4.08 per unit surpassed the likes of JSW Energy and Torrent Power.

Adani Power's bid for combined supply of renewable and thermal energy for 25 years was almost a rupee lower than the cost at which Maharashtra currently procures electricity and will help meet the state's future electricity needs, two sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. .

Supplies will begin in 48 months from the date of award of the letter of intent.
