On March 22, 2024, a tripartite agreement was signed between the Government of Maharashtra, Indian Institute of Management Nagpur and Pinaka Technologies Private Limited to establish 'MARVEL'.

The company is registered under the Companies Act, 2013, with the objective of enhancing law enforcement capabilities in Maharashtra through advanced AI technologies.

The integration of AI into the police force is expected to benefit crime prevention and resolution efforts by teaching machines to analyze information and imitate human thought processes.

Furthermore, analysis of available data can help predict possible crime hotspots and areas prone to public order disruptions.

A Home Department official said Pinaka Technologies Private Limited, a Chennai-based company with experience in providing artificial intelligence solutions to entities such as the Indian Navy, Andhra Pradesh Intelligence Department, Excise Department Revenue and SEBI are collaborating in this venture. .

The 'MARVEL' office is situated within the premises of the Indian Institute of Management in Nagpur, leveraging the expertise of the institute.

While Pinaka will offer AI solutions tailored to the needs of the police force, the Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur will collaborate on research and training initiatives.

Superintendent of Police, Nagpur (Rural) and Director, Indian Institute of Management, Nagpur will act as ex-officio directors of the company.

In addition, the director of Pinaka Technologies Private Limited will also join.

Nagpur Superintendent of Police (Rural) will hold the ex-officio post of Chief Executive Officer.
