MUMBAI: Early trends from the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra on Tuesday indicate that Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal and NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule are leading in their constituencies.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's son Shrikant Shinde (Shiv Sena) is also ahead of his rivals in the Kalyan Lok Sabha seat.

Shiv Sena led by CM Shinde has taken lead on six seats.

Counting of votes for 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state began at 8 a.m. and postal ballots were counted first, an official said.

Gadkari, who is contesting his third Lok Sabha election from Nagpur, has taken a lead over Congress candidate Vikas Thackeray, an election official said.

Goyal contested his first Lok Sabha election from Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat against Congress candidate Bhushan Patil.

In Baramati seat, Supriya Sule has taken lead over her sister-in-law and Sunetra Pawar, wife of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

In Kalyan seat, Shrikant Shinde, who is trying to reach Parliament for the third time, is leading over his rivals by a margin of 2,093 votes.

On Thane seat, Naresh Mhaske, a close confidant of CM Eknath Shinde, has taken a slight lead of 613 votes over his rivals.

Shiv Sena candidates Rahul Shewale (Mumbai South Central), Yamini Jadhav (Mumbai South), Shrirang Barne (Maval) and Prataprao Jadhav (Buldhana) are also ahead of their rivals.
