Thane: Admitting that the performance of the 'Mahayuti' alliance in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra fell short of expectations, Shiv Sena leader and Cabinet minister Uday Samant on Wednesday said his party will investigate the reasons for the poor performance and take corrective steps.

However, he acknowledged that the delay in announcing candidates and changes in candidates on some seats had hurt the ruling coalition's electoral prospects.

The ruling faction, comprising BJP (9), Shiv Sena (7) and NCP (1), got only 17 of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Addressing reporters at Anand Ashram, the Shiv Sena headquarters in Thane city, Samant also said that the performance reports of all representatives from the assembly constituencies falling under the Lok Sabha seats will be scrutinized and necessary action will be taken by the leaders of the Mahayuti constituents. .

Asked about the poor performance of the ruling coalition in the recently concluded elections, the Army leader said, "We will soon find out where we failed and take corrective steps.,

He said the opposition was successful in spreading confusion among some social groups which led to communal polarisation.

"We will definitely correct our mistakes and make a comeback in the Maharashtra Assembly elections (to be held in October)," he said, adding that the opposition's celebration would be short-lived.

Samant ridiculed the opposition for blaming electronic voting machines (EVMs) every time it loses an election.

"Now that Shiv Sena (UBT) has won nine seats, will they demand repoll on those nine seats?" The Minister of State asked.

“All said and done, our strike rate was higher than theirs.,

Among the opposition parties, Congress won 13 seats, Shiv Sena (UBT) nine and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) eight.

Responding to a question, the state Industries Minister said it was very clear that the opposition parties created confusion in the minds of the minority community members who voted for them in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts.

Asked about the announcement of candidates for the upcoming Legislative Council elections, he said the alliance partners will soon take a decision on the matter.

On the controversy over the low margin of victory of Shiv Sena candidate Ravindra Vaikar in Mumbai North-West, where he defeated Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amok Kirtikar by only 48 votes, Samant said the returning officer followed all the counting norms.

When told that Shiv Sena (UBT) was considering challenging the result, he said, “In a democracy everyone has the freedom to take their own step.,

MLA Pratap Sarnaik, who was present at the press conference, said that the victory of Shiv Sena candidate Naresh Mhaske in Thane is the result of good work done by the Mahayuti government in the last two years.
