Mumbai: The Maharashtra government will soon unveil a policy regarding hoardings in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), minister of state Uday Samant told the Legislative Assembly on Monday.

Samant made this statement during a discussion about hoardings put up in violation of rules in the city and the hoarding collapse incident in which 17 people lost their lives last month.

"A policy will be unveiled as soon as the code of conduct for the Legislative Council elections is finalized after the results of the graduates and teachers constituencies are declared," the minister said.

He said that a committee headed by former Allahabad High Court Chief Justice Dilip Bhosale is investigating the incident of hoarding falling on May 13 in Ghatkopar area of ​​Mumbai.

BJP MLA Ram Kadam alleged that Bhavesh Bhinde, whose company had installed the hoarding that collapsed, was photographed with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and his role should also be investigated.

Samant further said that when hoardings are put up on railway land, permission is not taken from the civic authorities.

He said, out of 1,025 hoardings in Mumbai, 306 are on railway land.
