Mumbai: Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Minister Dharmarao Baba Atram on Friday told the state Legislative Council that his department will issue an order banning the sale of energy drinks with high caffeine content within 500 meters of schools in the state. .

He gave this assurance while replying to a question raised by independent MLA Satyajit Tambe during Question Hour in the Upper House of the state legislature.

"The FDA will soon issue an order banning the sale of energy drinks with high caffeine content within a radius of 500 meters of schools in the state. As per the existing rules, caffeine content between 145 ml and 300 ml is allowed in a one liter carbonated Or non-carbonated beverages," Atram said.

Council vice-chairperson Neelam Gore directed Atram to prepare a list of beverages to be banned for effective implementation of the order and circulate it with FDA officials across the state.
