The badly affected crops of jowar, wheat, mango, oranges, bananas and rabi are spread over 50,000 hectares of land in Nagpur, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal Washim; Parbhani, Beed, Nanded, Latur, Dharashiv and Hingol from Vidarbha region and Marathwada region.

The weather bureau has predicted unseasonal rain and hailstorm for the next two days, which is a cause of concern for farmers.

State agriculture minister Dhananjay Munde said the district administration has been asked to complete the panchnama as soon as possible and submit a report suggesting financial assistance to be provided by the government.

The minister admitted that due to the Model Code of Conduct, the Relief and Rehabilitation Department is restricted in announcing financial assistance. However, he assured that the government will initiate action to provide relief to the farmers.

The department's directions assume significance as amid the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, opposition Shiv Sena UBT, NCP SP and Congress have targeted the Mahayut government over crop damage and subsequent loss to farmers.

Responding to the opposition's move, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has clarified that the government will provide all necessary assistance to the farmers affected by the wrath of nature.

In Amravati district alone, Rabi crops and fruits including oranges, mangoes and bananas spread over 40,000 hectares were seriously damaged. Crops spread over an area of more than 4,060 hectares in 74 villages adjacent to Akola were affected.

Crops spread over 3,500 hectares in 100 villages in Buldhana were affected.

NCP (SP) has criticized BJP over the farmers' crisis, saying that the party has now divided the farmers on the basis of which party they belong to.

NCP (SP) said, "BJP is only contacting farmers to seek votes but they will not allow such an insensitive government to continue."
