The initiative aims to empower girls whose parents' income is Rs 8 lakh or less per annum.

According to the GR issued by the state higher and technical education department, the scheme will be implemented from the academic year 2024-25.

The state cabinet has approved to bear additional burden of Rs 906.05 crore. The Higher and Technical Department has said that this decision of the government had become necessary because at present only 36 percent girls opt for professional courses. Hopefully this decision will encourage more girls to enroll in courses like Nursing, MBBS, MBA, BMM, BMS, BCA and others.

Apart from this, it is also expected that this scheme will help girls in pursuing higher education which they might not be able to do due to lack of money.

The GR will be applicable to girls studying in government colleges, government unaided and partially government aided or permanently unaided government colleges, polytechnics, public universities and deemed universities.

Shiv Sena spokesperson and party women's wing coordinator Susieben Shah lauded the government's move, saying, "Once again, the CM has shown that this government is committed to serving the common man."
