Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday said the age limit for the state government's financial assistance scheme for women, Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, has been increased to 65 years.

Speaking during the discussion in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said that the condition related to women whose families own government land has been removed.

Announced in the state budget presented in the Assembly by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, the scheme is aimed at married, divorced and destitute women in the age group of 21-60, who will get a monthly assistance of Rs 1,500.

Shinde said the age limit of beneficiaries has been raised to 65 years instead of the earlier 60, while the eligibility criteria for women whose families own agricultural land has been scrapped.

Shinde accused the opposition of spreading falsehoods against the government.

“You can't fool people all the time,” he said.

He asked the beneficiary women not to bribe the officials to register for the scheme.

“If anyone asks for money, file a complaint and the officer concerned will be suspended,” the Chief Minister said.
