In this regard, the Urban Development Department has issued a resolution under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

Chhatrapati Shirsat, MLA from Sambhajinagar West assembly constituency, had missed out on getting the ministerial post which he had claimed in June 2022 after joining Shinde during his rebellion. He remained the spokesperson of the party.

The government resolution is silent on Shirsat's tenure as CIDCO chairman. This appointment has been made as per the Articles of Association of CIDCO.

The Shiv Sena MLA will get facilities on the lines of a cabinet minister as per the government's previous decisions of August 22, 2003 and March 13, 2012.

His appointment as CIDCO chairman comes at a time when the grand alliance government expects the Navi Mumbai International Airport to start operations from March next year with an annual passenger traffic of 2 crore.

CIDCO has undertaken several major projects, including Navi Mumbai International Airport, Mass Housing Scheme under PMAY, Navi Mumbai Metro, Naina, Corporate Park, Water Transport Terminal and Water Supply Strengthening Initiative. These projects aim to create a sustainable, inclusive and prosperous city that meets the needs and aspirations of its citizens.

The total size of CIDCO's budget estimate for 2023-24 was Rs 10,544.63 crore, 21.79 per cent higher than the revised estimate for 2022-23.

CIDCO is currently engaged in the development of a state-of-the-art sports facility called Center of Excellence (CoE) at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. The facility is designed to provide a world-class 40,000 capacity FIFA standard football stadium to promote Indian football talent and host international events. The CoE site is spread over 10.5 hectares and is located near major infrastructure projects such as the Mumbai Pune Expressway and Navi Mumbai International Airport.
