New Delhi [India], Following slogans raised by some MPs during oath taking as Lok Sabha members, Speaker Om Birla has directed to add a new clause which specifies that a member cannot add any word or expression without any prefix or suffix. Will not use as. Oath or affirmation.

Om Birla amended 'Instruction 1' of 'Instructions by the Chairman' and after clause (2) a new clause (3) has been added with effect from June 28.

“A member, as the case may be, shall make and subscribe an oath or affirmation in accordance with the form prescribed for the purpose in the Third Schedule to the Constitution of India and shall not use any word or expression or make any comment. The new section states, a prefix or suffix as in an oath or affirmation.

The Speaker had earlier expressed concern over members using words beyond the expected text while taking oath and said he would form a panel.

While taking the oath, some members raised slogans like "Jai Constitution" and "Jai Hindu Rashtra". One member even raised the slogan "Jai Palestine".

The first session of the eighteenth Lok Sabha concluded on Tuesday. The new members took oath and the House, after debate, adopted the motion of thanks on the President's address. Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to the debate.
