Ukhrul (Manipur) [India], Senior citizens, including a 94-year-old woman, cast their votes at a polling booth in Ukhrul district of Outer Manipur for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Friday. Volunteers were seen helping the elderly. Voting for the remaining part of Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency began on Friday at polling stations in Manipur.
Another senior citizen also cast his vote at the polling booth after reaching it with the help of his family members.
In the second phase, voting is taking place today at 857 polling stations in 13 assembly constituencies of eight districts.
Meanwhile, another elderly woman, who cast her vote for Darjeelin parliamentary constituency in West Bengal, expressed happiness and said that the voting was going on well and peacefully.
An elderly voter from Darjeeling said, “It has been a very good and peaceful election. For this, we are very grateful to the people and everyone else.The government should continue the way it is working." She was given a wheelchair by other volunteers as she headed to the polling booth.
Police used drones for surveillance in Ukhrul district, which falls under the Outer Manipur Lok Sabha constituency, ahead of the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Friday. Naga People's Front (NPF)'s Kachui Timothy Zimik met Congress's Alfred K. Contesting re-election against Arthur. -Polling was held at 11 polling stations in Inner Manipur constituency on April 22. Several incidents of violence were reported during the first phase of polling on April 19 after unidentified miscreants opened fire and even destroyed EVMs. However, according to sources the re-polling was conducted under tight security to avoid any mishap. The Outer Manipur constituency is currently held by Nag People Front's Lorho Foze, however, this time the NPF is entering the elections as a partner in the BJP-led NDA. Earlier, the BJP had announced support to NPF candidate Katchui Timothy Zimik for Out Manipur. Zimik is contesting against Congress MLA Alfred K Arthur, the joint opposition candidate of the India Bloc.More than 69 percent voting took place in Manipur. 19 April Voting for the remaining 13 blocks of Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase on 26 April. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
