Puducherry [India], Fishermen of Puducherry hope that the Lok Sabha election candidates will provide them with modern technology like GPS on their boats to increase efficiency and safety. Puducherry has a vibrant fishing community where fishermen depend on traditional methods such as net fishing and boat fishing for their livelihood. Many families depend on the abundant marine resources found in the waters off the coast of the Union Territory. One of the major demands of the fishermen of Puducherry is the installation of GP technology in their boats. Demanding this, one of the fishermen said that due to factors like climate change and overfishing, traditional methods have become less reliable.Therefore, this has created the need for innovation, advancements in technology such as GPS navigation systems and fishfinders. H further said that this could significantly improve the accuracy of local fishing grounds, allowing catches to be optimized while reducing time spent at sea. Similar views were expressed by other fishermen also. A fisherman said that implementation of advanced communication tools such as satellite phones could enable fishermen. Stay connected with authorities and fellow fishermen, enhancing safety during adverse weather conditions or emergencies at sea.Another fisherman said that if they get access to such technology, they will benefit in various ways and lead to sustainable development. Therefore, support was sought from Members of Parliament to raise their voice in the House. Fishermen have long been an integral part of the coastal communities in the Union Territory, relying on traditional methods passed down for generations for their livelihood. However, with changing environmental conditions and increasing competition, they are now advocating the adoption of modern technology to improve their fishing practices. From GPS navigation systems to satellite communication devices, fishermen in Puducherry are looking for equipment that can enhance safety, increase efficiency and ensure sustainable fishing practices.Voting will be held first for all 39 Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu and the lone constituency of Puducherry. Voting will be held in seven phases across the country from April 1 to June 1. Counting of votes will take place on June 4.
