Pune: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Monday said that in the recently held Lok Sabha elections, people voted to stop concentration of power in the hands of one or two individuals.

He said it would have been difficult for the ruling BJP to get a majority of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha had it not got the support of Nitish Kumar-led JD(U), N Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party and Other associates.

Pawar also called on his party workers to be prepared for the Maharashtra Assembly elections to be held later this year and claimed that power in the state would be in their hands after the elections.

He was addressing NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) workers as the party celebrated its 25th foundation day at its office here, days after his organization contested the 2024 general elections from Maharashtra as part of the opposition alliance. Out of 10 Lok Sabha seats, 8 were won. ,

Although the BJP did not get a majority on its own in the recent Lok Sabha elections, the party-led National Democratic Alliance secured 293 out of 543 seats.Pawar said, today the country is going through a different situation.

He said, "The reins of the government are in the hands of (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi, but looking at the election results, the people's mandate is not for his convenience. Compared to the seats he won five years ago, his number this time is His strength has diminished." And the majority in Parliament has reduced,” he said."If he had not got the support of JD(U), and Telugu Desam Party and other allies in Andhra Pradesh, it would have been difficult for him to achieve the majority figure," the former Union minister said.

He claimed that in the last five years only one or two persons ran the government as per their wish and they did not think about the country in a broader perspective and insisted on centralization of power.

He said, "But fortunately, the people of the country, anticipating the situation ahead, voted to keep control of power in the hands of one or two individuals."

The former Maharashtra Chief Minister said, although complete decentralization of power has not taken place, the process of forming an administration has begun which will follow the path of decentralization of power.

On the occasion, Pawar hoisted his party's flag in the presence of his daughter and Baramati NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule, other leaders and workers."In the last 25 years, we worked towards spreading the ideology of the party and we will take the party forward with all our strength," the NCP founder said.

“Now it is my and your collective responsibility to work and aim for the state assembly elections so that after the election results the power is in your hands and we will ensure that the power is exercised for the common people and the marginalized people. Yes," he said.

After parting ways with the Congress in 1999, Pawar formed the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The NCP was divided in July last year after Ajit Pawar and some other MLAs joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the state. In February this year, the Election Commission declared the Ajit Pawar faction as the real Nationalist Congress Party and allotted the NCP symbol 'clock' to the group.

Sharad Pawar's party NCP (SP) was subsequently allotted the symbol of "man blowing trumpet" (a traditional trumpet) to contest the elections.
