Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Tuesday accepted its defeat as the party was not ahead on any of the 17 Lok Sabha seats in Telangana, but exuded confidence that it will rise like a phoenix.

As the counting of votes reached the final stage on Tuesday, the ruling Congress and BJP look set to win eight seats each in the state.

AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi was certain to retain Hyderabad parliamentary constituency.

Lok Sabha elections were held in the state in a single phase on May 13.

Rama Rao said that in the last 24 years since the inception of TRS (now BRS), BRS has seen great achievements, successes and also many failures.

"Biggest Pride: Formation of Telangana state will remain our biggest achievement. Being a regional party won two consecutive state elections with good majority 63/119 - 2014, 88/119 - 2018. Currently, 1/3 of the seats Major opposition with 39/119 – 2023,” he said in a post on 'X'.

Rama Rao, BRS president and son of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, said, "Today's election setback is certainly very disappointing. But we will continue to work hard and rise again from the ashes like a phoenix."

BRS party had won nine seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

BRS had to face defeat in the assembly elections held in November last year.
