Shimla/Solan Hotels and restaurants in Solan will offer 20 per cent discount to voters on polling day as part of the district administration's efforts to encourage people to vote.

Solan Deputy Commissioner Manmohan Sharma said that the Solan administration has so far tied up with 20 hotels and restaurants under the 'Shuddh Khao, Vote for Sure' campaign.

Calling on people to reach polling stations in large numbers, Sharma said voters would get "pure food" including home delivery at 20 per cent discount.

He said more restaurants would join the initiative by voting day on June 1.

Solan is part of the Shimla Lok Sabha constituency where voting will be held in the last phase of the seven-phase elections.

Sharma said the aim was to encourage people, especially young college-going voters, to vote as most of the polling stations with low turnout in the district are in Solan city.

Food safety officials are also promoting serving of millets as part of other nutritious food items in hotels and restaurants, the official said. He said that 20 percent discount on home delivery will also be given provided all the members of the family above 18 years of age show the voting symbol on their fingers.

He said that from Tuesday onwards the Hotel Bill will be stamped with an appeal to the people to vote.

Voting for four Lok Sabha seats and six assembly by-elections in Himachal Pradesh will be held on June 1.
