Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Excise Minister Nitin Agarwal on Tuesday issued instructions that liquor should not be served to people below 21 years of age in bars and clubs in the state.

Minister of State for Excise (Independent Charge) Agarwal also said that bars and liquor shops should not remain open beyond the stipulated time. Action should be taken if rules are violated.

Reviewing the departmental work, Aggarwal said, "Alcohol should not be served to people below 21 years of age in bars and clubs. For this, continuous checking should be done."

Aggarwal also said that in shops which do not have a license to serve liquor and do not have proper seating arrangements, consumers should not be allowed to consume liquor in the open. Strict compliance with the rules should be ensured.

He said that a target of revenue collection of Rs 58,310 crore has been set in the current financial year, against which revenue of Rs 11,783.76 crore has been received till June.
