Bengaluru, bottles of liquor were allegedly distributed to people attending a thanksgiving program organized to celebrate the victory of BJP's K Sudhakar in the Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha segment, according to sources.

Videos of people being handed bottles of liquor along with police personnel and 'bouncers' managing the crowd amidst barricades have gone viral on social media.

According to sources, leaders, workers and supporters of BJP's alliance partner JD(S) also attended Sunday's event near here organized by local BJP leaders, where non-vegetarian food was also served.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R Ashoka and other BJP and JD(S) leaders participated in the stage event.

According to official sources, the excise department had granted license to serve liquor at the event.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday demanded "answers" from BJP president JP Nadda on the liquor service issue.

"I don't want the local (BJP) leaders to respond. I want the BJP national president to respond. It is the culture of the BJP," he told reporters here.

When asked if any case will be reserved, he said: "That is the next point, first let the party (BJP) respond."

Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao said in a tweet: "Saying one thing and doing another... BJP leaders are busy distributing liquor while the state is affected by dengue. Where are the BJP leaders who tell me they questioned swimming in the pool when I visited Mangalore (Mangaluru).

Stating that he has nothing to do with the incident and is hurt, MP Sudhakar said whoever organized the liquor distribution, be it BJP or JD(S) workers, is "wrong" and it will be ensured that such things get done. Not repeated.

"Taluk BJP and JD(S) workers organized the event and invited me and opposition leader Ashoka. We left after attending the meeting. What happened after the event, I came to know through the media" , said.

"I have no knowledge if the organizers of the event distributed liquor or if the attendees consumed it.... In my 20 years of political life I have never been involved in politics by distributing liquor. It should not be done, it is unforgivable. I have told everyone world," added Sudhakar, former Health Minister of Karnataka.
